For numbers or release? Numbers are projected and not current. As for the release, I know :(

Completely new to the IM front, but it seems like you guys are doing a similar game development (but way more involved) as Unknown Worlds and Natural Selection.

http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/

Wow, just found out they won moddb's indie game of the year. check it out

http://www.moddb.com/events/2009-mod-of-the-year-awards/features/players-choice-indie-game-of-the-year-2009

I'm sorry, I don't mean to SPAM, but it sounds like a similar business strategy. But again, you guys seem to have a lot more stuff for the waiting fan to do =)

AAA Indie is a great concept. I love it and think it will have have a nice place in the game development world, but I doubt it will take over and become the standard.

It doesn't have to be standard but it would be nice to show developers that they DO have other options.

It would be nice, with a sandbox level editor. Or maybe some sort of superpowers like wallrunning/crawling or claws. It would be awesome :)

It would also be great with tactical weapon customizasion. Or maybe if you could assasinate targets in awsome ways..

Whatever happens, please do not turn this into a series of boring corridor shootouts, it kills so many titles in the FPS genre, I'm sure you won't though.

AAA indie is a great idea, this is one of the first major projects I've seen that has tried to get some serious community funding.

Something I'd like to see in the whole "indie community spirit" eventually would be maybe the ability to make mods for the game. I'm not sure how easy that would be with Unity shy of releasing the whole source which would be bad.. Maybe people could write mod dlls that the game calls? Though that would make mods not possible in a browser.. Or at least not without some hack-fu!

Sooo I just bought a game that does not exist yet.

I was curious about what's inside the illusive "briefing room" - as it turns out, nothing that i haven't seen on here before. Pretty underwhelming.

Well - i hope my money will help you finish the game, and while you are at it, make it run decent on my macbook pro; the running man demo does not really fill me with a lot of hope that the final game will run smoothly on my computer.

Uh, Johnson, all the information you needed was there, that's also why it's called a pre-order.

I dont think it was a complaint about making a pre-order, rather an unimpressive briefing room... but do let me know if that is not correct johnson :)

Personally I also think the briefing room is a bit underwhelming from time to time. But then something like the investor brief or the GDC 08 presentation pops up and I am happy again ;)

Pretty much, It almost seems like there should be a little more to the briefing room, but as it is I'm not complaining.

I'm just glad that all my money is going to the Devs instead of a measly $7.50 per $60 game.

I had an idea and this seems the place to post it since its under the AAA indie topic.

Im new to IM so Im not sure if anyone else has had this idea but what if you could almost make AAA indie be a feaux pas umbrella collective. As in a collective of different developers that all go under the AAA indie umbrella, as a rule they advertise each others games on their websites and maybe at the menu for each of their games they feature other demos or trailers of other AAA indie devs games. Also, a AAA indie website would be made that shows other AAA indie developers (which would be accepted based on quality of their games), almost as a Steam for AAA indie devs only. And even if you eventually collected enough devs to the AAA indie collective you could have a convention for it where they all get together and talk about their games and promote the AAA indie movement.

All just ideas.

I believe the idea of AAA indie has much merit within the industry. However aside from the questions and the occasional art piece released in-between the chunks of gameplay and demos... more needs to be done to attract attention and resources (financing) for the completion of this title.

Why not get the community even more involved through competitions such as design a bad guy, a gun,etc... etc... Banner competition is a good start.

Delve more into the backstory of the Universe you are creating, reveal to players the depth of your creations. Inverse, allow the community to add to the lore.

Update your blog daily! Even if its to say you are working on the game.

Make the Briefing Room worthwhile! Maybe a daily video blog? More in depth look at what's coming in future updates? Exclusive Polls and or Surveys? Weekly or Bi-Weekly web comic? The Investor reports are nice.

Merchandising... It can be considered cheap, but only if what's available is.

Get your game and names on the big sites; IGN, Gamespot, Joystick, Kotaku, Destructoid, etc... etc... I realize that this has been done in small portions, but maybe do an exclusive weekly blog post, video blog, and interviews. You need to get everyone thinking about this game! Daily! Weekly! Monthly!

You have to start planing to contend with upcoming titles from the big guys: Like Activision's Future Setting COD game that keeps getting rumored, and whatever Bungie is cooking up for them. EA's potential "First Person" SciFi setting game being developed by Bioware (The one to be previewed at this years VGA's). Also Microsoft will most likely move the Halo series towards the route taken with the COD franchise. As well as the other Publishing houses and Pro Studios. If they begin to feel threatened by your work, you can bet they will try to squash your studio and your proposed Video Game design strategies.

Your best bet to preserve your financial security and relevance in this industry is too attract attention from all potential consumers, and solidify it. If you gain the consumers loyalty and trust they will make you successful, otherwise this game doesn't get off the ground as it should. Also being highly active in the Video Gaming community will probably help gain support for bigger investors who are still unsure of your strategies.

Good Luck, and godspeed!

I like LostCipher's ideas though a daily video blog seems like a bit much maybe monthly video update like your For The Love Of The Game video. I loved that video and strangely watch it every other day. I love seeing inside the office, seeing you guys talking about the game getting inside your head. I think a monthly video inside the office talking about whats new would be great and the response I keep hearing from everyone is "GET US MORE INVOLVED!" we are totally willing to do probably anything you ask, just let us in. We want to see whats going on, especially since a lot of us gave you guys our hard earned money it would be great to see whats going behind the scenes. We really just want you guys to succeed and are willing to help anyway we can. Point of my rant is A) everyone wants to know whats going on behind the scenes and B) tell us what to do and we'll help
