Interstellar Marines Unoffical FAQ

This FAQ has not been written by Zero Point Software and may have errors in it. I will strive to be as accurate as possible and refrain from conjecture, but I will not be able to guarantee everything stated here.

General Questions

The developers are from Denmark? Will Interstellar Marines be released where I live / in my language?
Interstellar Marines is planned as a worldwide release through digital download. The game will be in English, with no other languages announced at this time.

How will the game be distributed once it is released? Is there a download for the game?
The game will be offered as a digital download, directly from ZPS at first. There has been no official announcement regarding third party digital distribution platforms (Steam, D2D, Impulse, etc.)

What platforms will Interstellar Marines be released on? IM uses the Unity engine, which currently supports the PC and Mac. ZPS has stated that prepurchase through the spearhead and frontline programs will give you access to both PC and Mac versions of the game.

What about consoles? I really love my 360/PS3/Wii. The Unity engine is expanding it's platform support shortly to include Xbox 360, and a version of the bullseye teaser has been ported over as a tech demo. As of this writing, the most info we know from ZPS is that they are very interested in supporting console versions, but they may come later than PC/Mac versions due to licensing costs. Console platforms other than the 360 are in the hands of the Unity devs.

If IM comes out on console, will my Spearhead/Frontline account get me a copy of the console versions? ZPS has stated that the games you are entitled to from your account upgrades will be the PC and Mac versions directly from ZPS. Programs that fee ZPS (console releases, steam, etc) will require additional money. No word on whether this is a pay the difference program, or if Spearhead/Frontline simply do not help you there.

Does that mean there are no boxed versions of the game?
If ZPS is planning a boxed version, they have yet to announce it.

Will I need to have an internet connection to play Interstellar Marines?
As digital distribution will be the primary method of sale, you will need an internet connection to get the game. Afterwards, you will be able to play offline.

Will this game have any DRM? I hate DRM.
They are taking a very unique approach to this game, in that they will GIVE IT AWAY. Seriously. The offline portion of the game will be free, and if you would like to play online, access all of the features of the game, you will have to purchase.

When will Interstellar Marines be released?
No release date has been announced.

Will there be a Beta Test? If so, how do I become a Beta Tester?
So far, ZPS has released alpha/beta versions of Bullseye and Running Man teasers to Spearhead,Frontline and Enlisted marines that have at least one support medal before releasing to the general public. They will most likely continue this trend for their future releases.

Spearhead? Frontline? What is that?
Both Spearhead and Frontline are basically preorders. Spearhead will net you all 3(!) copies in the trilogy, while frontline will buy you the first only. For more info, go here. I highly recommend upgrading.

I have upgraded to Spearhead, and I would like to donate more money. Where do I do that?" You can buy support medals, at $5 USD apiece if you wish to donate additional money. Read more about this here.

What systems is Interstellar Marines being developed for?
Interstellar Marines is currently being developed for Microsoft Windows. ZPS has stated an interest in also bringing the game to the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, but is not actively working on either versions at this time. Console development will most likely not start until the PC version turns a profit. The game engine that ZPS is using (Unity) supports mac, but no announcements have been made regarding mac support.

What are the system requirements?
ZPS has not announced anything regarding system requirements.

What rating will Interstellar Marines have?
IM is targeted at gamers age 17 and older. Expect the rating in your country to reflect this.

Does Interstellar Marines have any social groups I can join, besides the official forum?
Sure does! As far as official channels go, you can befriend IM on facebook or follow them on twitter. Unofficially, a steam group and a gamespot union exist.

I just watched the trailer... Did I just see sharks with legs?
You sure did. Pretty awesome, huh?

I don't see any enemies but sharks w/ legs, is that all I will fight in this game?
ZPS has assured us there will be much more to fight than legged sharks, but no info is available at this time.

One thing you could add is maybe to clarify the whole concept of upgrading the account a bit - "Why should i upgrade?" or "How can i be sure the game will be released" - I can imagine a lot of people have similar questions

I am always the first to preoder something if I have faith in the dev team, but to be honest, I think you guys are aiming for such an insanely high level of quality, it's going to be difficult to nail. And the ban isn't helping. I've just not seen enough. Consider you work watched but not preordered yet :-)

no worries. I grew up with a Macintosh PC, there was nothing else but Indies to play :-) I am keeping my eye on EVERY game that has potential out there for any system. But if it's an Indie game (and Indie's often develop a game WITH their community instead for them), it's special.

Like I said, I will certainly upgrade if get the feeling this will be actually out someday. I need to see more, need to see progress. So far, I see a nice website, shiny trailers and 4 years of development without anything significant to show us. Don't get me wrong, I know how this works, I am doing this stuff myself. Again, it will come in time.

agreed - totally understands people who feel this way. No doubt once some actual in-game content is shown in some way (no - that photoshot is not what i would call in-game...its a photshot and thats it ;) ) the community will grow a lot. Hopefully we will get a bit of that with the upcomming Vault.

As for the ban - we havent heard anything. Not sure they will be able to show anything from the engine used so far unless they go ahead and buy it...and if it is indeed unreal 3 its quite expensive!

my personal guess is that they have an agreement with InfinityWards about the improved CoD4 Engine used for ModernWarfare 2.

The game is currently PC-exclusive? I've seen in being listed on PS3 and 360 everywhere, and it'd be really disappointing if it's not released, or there is a delay in between the PC release and the console release.

Basically, ZPS is an indie company, and as such, they don't have a whole lot of money to be throwing around. They are releasing on PC first, because they can basically do everything themselves, and distribute the product themselves. Whereas with a console, you have to pay MS or Sony for licensing, etc etc.

Basically, they have every intention on putting the game on consoles, but it will be after the pc version has given them some returns.
