It's finally official, the name and the product, Playstation Move.

Announced at GDC 2010, and here's a few articles about it.

It looks kinda funky, right?

Not only does it look like something people would give to their girlfriends but its a blatant rip of of the wii remote.

Sure, but then again, it's hard to make a motion controller without peoples minds going to the Wii.

There are quite a lot of differences as well, but I see what you mean.

And by the way, I don't think you want to give that product to your girlfriend, she might find it more satisfying that you, lol.

Looks solid and much better than the Wii looked back than. DEFINITLY HAS POTENTIAL. But so had the Wii. So had Motion Plus. Plus I still think Motion Controls are not the road this industry should take. I'll be keeping my eyes on this one.

For curiosity sake: Name three Wii games that were not only good but also benefited from Motion Controlls. If I add the condition "not from Nintendo" I you fail. Metroid was awesome, the Trilogy release is something every Wii owner should posess. On the other hand, no serious game still has his or her Wii ;-)

Also, people seem to be forgeting that this IS NOT the Wii Remote. It's not just the controller. The camera tracks a lot more than the small orb ;-) Fusing the good old Playstation EyeToy with this could produce awesome games.

PROBLEM IS THAT "COULD"

Just can't get interested. I read an article on one of their light gun shooters, and you have to spin in a circle to use one of your powerups. I facepalm'd HARD.

But that's just a single game? Oh well.

I'm keeping my eye on it as well, but I'll probably end up trying it out any way.

Just saying, I'm not convinced Sony is going to use motion controls any more relevantly than Nintendo has. The tech is slightly different to evade Nintendo copyrights, but its largely the same shit, different console. If the wii has left you jaded, the move is not really a new take on anything to spark interest.

I agree.

But since I've never had a Wii, or played on a Wii, it'll probably end up being fun no matter what - in case I decide to try it out.

No, never even played one. Same goes for the Xbox 360.

It seems like initial hands-on reports say it has some annoying input lag, worse than a wiimote.

It could just be that the games demonstrating the tech are not finished, but if you watch any of the blurry gdc videos it is pretty obvious there is some input lag.

meh...just as I was seriously considering getting a PS3 (mostly becuase of heavy rain heh)

This controller might be what the wii should have been when it was released... but I honestly dont see the charm (anymore at least..i was very hyped for the wii) with playing a game with such a controller. Its nothing but a huge gimmick that adds nothing or very little to the gameplay value...

Meh. Natal has potential but this, this is just a copy of the Wii controller to rake in more money.

NATAL has even less potential than this Astalano! Natal lacks ANY physical input, there is no controller at all.

NATAL as an interface technology is awesome and works great but not exactly new, in fact it's based on technology that exists since almost 8 years now. But, you know how the game works, you always research today what the crowds get in a decade. For gaming... well it's a step worse than the motion controls.

I think it has potential if it's integrated fully into games and strategy games may finally appeal to me more with it.

@ Vidmaster: The move is not exactly new, either. Aside from it being highly derivative, Sony has held the patent on that style of light tracking since the development of the eyetoy in the PS2 days. Like you said, research for use in a decade. The thing that has people excited about natal is that no matter how old it is, it has not been available in a gaming capacity.
